Passing Down The Craft
MAY, 2001 The memory of a favorite grandmother or aunt spending time at the sewing machine is one that many of us will cherish for the rest of our lives. The handmade items that we have received from the stitchers in our lives are some of the most of the most treasured pieces that we own. If we are to preserve the craft of stitching and increase its worth, we must promote this artform in three ways. First, pass this skill on to others by teaching them the love of the craft — either in a practical form or as a creative expression. Another way to keep sewing alive is to create
heirlooms that can be passed from generation to generation. Learn to take pride in your work, use quality materials,
and document each item by labeling it with your name, date, and the occasion for which it was sewn. And still a third method of continuing the tradition is to select quality machines with the BERNINA name that can be passed to a new generation of sewers who appreciate excellence and want to incorporate it into their sewing projects. Join us for a delightful two hour lecture/demonstration devoted to the preservation of an artform as old as time itself. This thought-provoking class is designed to encourage the continuation of the craft of sewing beyond the current
generation.
BERNINA’s talented Training Consultant, Marlene Bryant, will share with you ideas for continuing the tradition of creative stitching — making quality heirloom projects that can be handed down for generations to come, caring for those stitched treasures, and special ways of encouraging other people to sew. She will be here on May 21, 2001. The class will be presented at 10:00am and again at 4:00pm.
In addition to the Passing Down the Craft program, there will be a free bonus lecture on Tradition Through Technology. This informative one-hour lecture covers the latest machine methods for accomplishing stitching techniques traditionally done by hand. You’ll be amazed at the possibilities offered to the modern home sewer by today’s innovations, some of which you already have in your home.
